Welcome!
Welcome to the Department! This page is an introduction to some of
the internet resources available to you. When you have time, please
look over the department web site (history.osu.edu)
and bookmark the faculty resource page.
Webmail and Mail Forwarding
To activate your OSU e-mail account, please use
this page on the OSU site.
You can access your OSU e-mail account from anywhere in the world.
Just point your browser to https://webmail.osu.edu/ and
log in using your OSU username and password (name.#). Once you're
logged in you can change your settings, including the "mail
forward" option that allows you to forward your OSU e-mail
to a different account.
Setting up a Humanities Account
The first thing you should do once you settle
in is set
up your Humanities account. A Humanities account allows you
to do several things: log onto the Humanities network, access your
network folder, use the computers in the Goldberg Instructional
Center, and create a bio in the faculty directory.
Your Humanities username and login are not the same as your OSU username and
login: the easiest way to remember the difference is that your OSU username has a dot ("professor.1") but your Humanities username has no dot ("professor1"). Regardless, the passwords will be different; Humanities passwords expire every 90 days and we recommend setting your password to "current quarter" + "something you'll remember" so that the quarterly change of password will be easier to remember (e.g. "summerabigail").
Your Network Folder
Once you've set up a Humanities Account, you will be assigned a
folder on the network where you can store and retrieve files. You
can access this folder from any department computer that you have
logged onto, and you can even access
your folder from home.
There is a generous 512mb limit to your network folder (256mb for
grads and undergrad staff - click
for more info on network space).
Your folder is located on the "N:" drive. You will need
to be logged on for it to appear. You will find it at:
N:\HISTORY\name#

Note: this folder is not the same as your network web
folder, which is also located on the N: drive.
Also, be sure to leave the "workstation only"
box unchecked when you log on, or else you will not be connected
to the Humanities network. |

rosters, classroom information, grade submission and other internet
tools.
Your Bio Page on the Web
Once you've set up your Humanities account, you will
appear in our faculty
directory. To add a picture or text for your bio, click on the
link on your bio page titled "edit the information on this
page". It will ask you for your OSU username and password (name.#).
The Goldberg Instructional Center
The Harvey
Goldberg Program for Excellence in Teaching includes the Instructional
Center on the second floor of Dulles Hall. We provide a variety
of teaching aids such as scanners, printers, microfilm/fiche readers,
a variety of tech-oriented periodicals, presentation and web-design
software, and a multimedia database that can be accessed through
the web.
Tech Support
Humanities Information Systems (H.I.S.) is available
to help with your computing troubles. For help you can click
here or call them at 292-8662.
For issues with your e-mail account or other tech
problems outside of the department, the Office of Information Technology
(O.I.T.) can be reached here
or by calling 688-HELP.
Course Management Software
Carmen, developed by Desire2Learn, is available to all faculty
as a platform for supplemental material, online quizzes, grade
management
or simply posting of files such as your syllabus or lecture notes.
Take a look at the Carmen site
for more information.
Server Space for Web Pages
The department also hosts web space for faculty and grads who are
interested in creating their own
web pages.
Web Calendar
The meeting &
events calendar is a web-based tool to help us all know what's
happening around the department. Please check it regularly. You
can even submit events to the
calendar yourself using our online form.
