Denice Fett
I hold a B.A. in History and Secondary Education, from Grand Valley State University, Spring 2004, and a M.A. in History from The Ohio State University, Summer 2005. My MA title was: "The Conquest that Never Was: England, 1559." In this work I examined the planned invasion of England by both France and Spain and how this influenced religious, diplomatic and political developments in England and Scotland.
My research interests focus primarily on the emergence of diplomatic institutions, diplomatic culture, and the role of information in the world of negotiations between Atlantic European states in the mid- to late-sixteenth century. My dissertation, which I successfully defended in September 2009, is titled: "Information, Intelligence and Negotiation in the West European Diplomatic World, 1558-1588." In this thesis, I draw on a wealth of archival and published sources from five different countries in order to reconstruct the processes by which individuals acquired, disseminated and utilized information in international negotiations. I am also very interested in the extension of these practices and ideas in the context of the early modern Atlantic World, Baltic and Mediterranean. I am currently on fellowship leave until spring 2010. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my research interests at fett.7@buckeyemail.osu.edu.
