Guidelines for Students Interested in Majoring in History
1. Earn credit for English 110 or English 111.
2. Take one of the History GEC (General Education Curriculum)
sequences. If you are interested in being a social studies teacher, you
should take the History 181-182 World Civilization sequence. Please ask
the receptionist for the requirement sheet for Integrated Social Studies
Licensure.
3. If you have completed a GEC history sequence and are planning
on majoring in history, History 398 is the next course you should take.
4. If you are not able to register for History 398, you may enroll
in any 300-level history course, and then try to register for History
398 the following quarter.
5. For other questions regarding GEC courses, you should go to
USAS (Undergraduate Student Advising Services) to schedule an appointment
with an adviser: USAS is located on the first floor of Denney Hall, 164
W. 17th Avenue (292-6961).
6. Transfer students who need to have history transfer credit
evaluated should make an appointment to meet with Maria Mazon.
Students need to bring to the appointment the Transfer Credit Evaluation,
transcript, course descriptions and syllabi.
7. If you are sure you want to be a history major, make an appointment with
Ms. Mazon and you will be assigned a faculty adviser.
8. If you are a declared Honors student, the Honor's Advisers
are Prof. Greg Anderson, 247-8040 and Richard Ugland, 292-2674; you may
contact one of them for an appointment.
