Tryntje Helfferich received her M.A. from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, and her Ph.D. in early modern European history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She studies central Europe during the period of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), with a particular focus on the history of war and society. She is also interested in questions of early modern European gender, and in the diplomatic and religious history of the time. Her publications include The Thirty Years War: A Documentary History, and she has recently completed a book on the German princess Amalia Elisabeth of Hesse-Cassel.
