Graduate students in History at OSU

The Department of History welcomes international undergraduate and graduate students as well as visiting scholars and permanent faculty members.

The Office of International Affairs facilitates international opportunities for students and faculty through the coordination of study abroad programs and the sponsoring of international area studies centers. The Title VI centers for Slavic and East European Studies, East Asian Studies, and Middle East Studies offer academic year and summer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships to qualifying students who wish to pursue language training. Along with the Center for African Studies and the Center for Latin American Studies, as well as the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, these Centers benefit History Department faculty and students by sponsoring lectures, conferences, and a wide range of cultural activities on campus.

The Colleges of the Arts and Sciences also offers a major and a minor in the interdisciplinary International Studies Program, which specializes in contemporary global issues and regional areas.

Notes for International Students

Prior to arriving to the United States, you are encouraged to acquaint yourself with the additional requirements for international students and scholars, explained in detail by the Office of International Affairs. There, you will find useful information on financial requirements, additional academic requirements (transcripts as well as TOEFL and the Test of Spoken English), health issues, and visa procedures. The OIA also provides help with practical questions on how to open a bank account, request a Social Security Number, arrange travel, or find housing.
