Families, Friends, and Allies
Families, Friends, and Allies is the latest book by Assistant Professor Heather J. Tanner
Families, Friends, and Allies: Boulogne and Politics in Northern France and England, c. 879-1160, is the first book by Heather J. Tanner, an assistant professor at the Mansfield campus. Through an examination of the interrelationships among the counts of Boulogne and the neighboring counts of Picardy, Flanders, Normandy and England in the late ninth through mid-twelfth century, Prof. Tanner presents a new model of political development in a region devastated by the Viking invasions. The book is part of the larger debate on feudalism, the rise of government institutions, kinship and identity.
