Christopher Otter
Professor Otter received his BA from the University of Oxford in 1991, his MA from the University of Exeter in 1996, and his PhD from the University of Manchester in 2002.
Professor Otter's research interests include the history of technology, the history of food, and environmental history. His area of geographical focus is Europe, particularly Britain, from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century. He has published articles in numerous journals, including the Journal of British Studies, Cultural Geographies, Food and History, and History of Technology. His first book, "The Victorian Eye: A Political History of Light and Vision in Britain, 1800-1910," (University of Chicago Press, 2008) was awarded the 2009 Morris D. Forkosch Prize by the American Historical Association and the 2008 Sonia Rudikoff Prize by the Northeastern Victorian Studies Association.
