2010 Middle East & Islamic World Study Abroad Fellowship

The Department of History announces a new program to award a $5,200 scholarship to an Ohio State University undergraduate student committed to pursuing language training in the Middle East/Islamic world in Summer 2010. The funds may be used to cover the costs of travel, tuition, room and board, and other incidentals incurred during the study abroad experience.

Interested undergraduates are encouraged to contact the following History faculty for guidance on available programs, expected costs, and terms of the award: Professor Carter Findley (findley.1@osu.edu), Professor Jane Hathaway (hathawayj@hotmail.com), Professor Stephen Dale (dale.1@osu.edu), or Professor Scott Levi (levi.18@osu.edu). These faculty are well-traveled in the Middle East/Islamic World and are eager to mentor students interested in such an experience. Students should note the following important University regulation: "In countries under a current Department of State Travel Warning, undergraduate students cannot use scholarship awards for study abroad programs and/or individual international projects outside of venues approved by Ohio State. For further information, please contact Grace Johnson (Johnson.136@osu.edu) at the Office of International Affairs."

To apply, a student should complete the one-page application, attach a concise resume and transcript, and submit the package to Professor Peter Hahn, Chair, Department of History, 106 Dulles Hall, 230 West 17th Avenue, Columbus OH 43210. Applications are welcome from any Ohio State undergraduate although preference will be given to History majors.

The 2010 Middle East & Islamic World Study Abroad Fellowship was generously funded by the Women & Philanthropy program of the Ohio State University.
