Registrar/Curatorial Assistant

Curatorial assistant will report to Curator of Art Department. Duties include assisting curator with installation/de-installation of exhibitions, processing loan agreements and serving as liaison with lending museums, researching art and artists in permanent collection, writing labels and wall text, and maintaining collections database. This position is 40 hours/week with occasional Saturdays and evening hours.

A B.A. in Art History or Museum Studies is preferred. An ideal candidate will have previous experience handling art and/or working in an art museum. Candidate should possess strong writing/research skills and be computer literate. Experience with MS Office suite required; familiarity with collections database software and/or Adobe Photoshop a plus.

The National Sporting Library is a research institution dedicated to the literature and art of horse and field sports. Its permanent collection includes paintings, sculpture, and works-on-paper by primarily British and American artists from the 18th-20th centuries. Data Entry Assistants

George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens seeks one part-time and one full-time data-entry assistant to aid in a three-year collections online initiative. Working with the Collections Manager and curatorial staff, the assistants will be responsible for inputting and editing electronic records in the collections management database and managing the physical files. Positions will use collections files to edit, update and create electronic collections records; this will involve inputting curatorial and collections management information including interpretive text, accession history, locations and conservation treatment records. Assistants will also aid in developing data entry protocol, authorized vocabulary lists and in creating database reports. B.A. in relevant field, attention to detail, and proficiency with computers and databases required; museum experience preferred. Experience with Re:Discovery/FoxPro and/or TMS as well experience and/or interest in American material culture a plus.

Historic Site Manager

Teacher Advisor

The Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) is America's largest and mosteffective private, non-profit battlefield preservation organization. CWPT seeks to preserve threatened Civil War battlefields from development, and educate the public about the crucial role these sites played in shaping our nation's history.

The position of Teacher Advisor collaborates with the Education Coordinator and is critical to both CWPT's preservation and education missions.

Responsibilities

* Assist with the planning and implementation of an annual Teacher Institute. The three day institute is held each summer and draws around 200 teachers for workshops, lectures, events, and a battlefield tour.

* Conduct outreach to school districts, particularly in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

* Create and disseminate Civil War related resources to partner schools

* Attend and present at local, regional, and national history and education conferences, especially Virginia's Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.

* Assist with the coordination of various contests(photography, poster & essay, best lesson plan)

* Maintain a database of education contacts

* Collaborate with colleagues on a variety of projects including website development, event planning, and donor development.

Qualifications

* At least 3 years experience in education, preferably in classroom teaching

* BA/S and/or teaching certification required

* Outstanding oral/written communication skills, and basic computer skills

* Ability to conduct large and small group meetings

* Willingness to be part of a dynamic team-oriented work environment

JMM interns will work closely with the Photo Archivist on varied collections and exhibitions projects to gain insight into the workings of the museums. Data Preparation Assistant, Collections and Research | Database Assistant, Anthropology Department

Job Description: 1 Full Time Position (35 hours/week) for 9 months. The Anthropology department has a set of artifact data and supporting multimedia files (images, audio, etc.) that need to be migrated to the EMu, the new collections management applications. The data models are different and there are many inconsistencies that need to be addressed in mapping the data to the new schema. An acceptable solution needs to be worked out with Anthropology content experts to address each inconsistency, thus facilitating a smooth migration.

Job Duties Responsibilities include: * Working with Anthropology staff and the Collections Database Architect to prepare the Anthropology FileMaker data for migration to EMu using the most efficient strategy. * Becoming closely familiar with the current data model and developing mapping table of where all the fields go in EMu. This involves developing a base EMu table to support data mapping and migration in Access and developing mapping queries to put the right data into the right fields, from FileMaker to Access. * Developing strategies to prepare the data so that it is consistent, and mapped into the Access table fields that require no transformations in order to get into EMu. The approach is one table per module, and so that all Anthropology data must find a home in the new schema. * Working closely with Anthropology staff to figure out difficult data inconsistencies, and clean data to those decisions. * Writing help text for every field being mapped to in EMu. * Finding and correcting migration issues/errors. * Other work as assigned.

Qualifications * Must have practical working knowledge of FileMaker * Microsoft Access and Excel, and be familiar with SQL, data models, and data architectures. * Degree in Anthropology or a closely related area or have recent experience in Anthropology collections management. * Demonstrate a passion for detail. * Be able to work closely and effectively in a team. * Be punctual and able to stick to a deadline.
