Undergraduate Research in the Department of History at OSU
The Department of History offers a variety of options for undergraduates to pursue research in history. More information is available at the Office of Undergraduate Research site.
What is Research?
Historical research includes perusal of a vast array of sources, from letters, memoirs, diaries, government memoranda, laws and court cases, and statistical tables to novels, material artifacts (pottery, tools, buildings, artwork, photos), and newspapers. After collecting and analyzing the sources, historians tell a story about them and employ theoretical constructs to help make sense of their multiple meanings.
Undergraduate research necessitates an educational collaboration between students and faculty members. Undergraduate research experiences may be initiated by students who seek out faculty supervision for their projects or by faculty members who involve undergraduate students in their research teams.
