Race, Ethnicity, and Nation Seminar

The Race, Ethnicity, and Nation (REN) constellation at The Ohio State University Department of History examines the relationship between the concepts of race, ethnicity, and nation in a variety of geographical and chronological contexts. We are committed to promoting comparative analysis of three main sets of issues. First, we focus on the process by which ethnic and racial groups were formed within particular national and colonial contexts as well as the political, economic, and cultural implications of these differentiations. Second, we examine the significance of diasporic and transnational ties, particularly for marginalized ethnicities and racialized groups. Finally, we are invested in exploring the intersection of gender and sexuality with race, ethnicity, and nation.
