Congratulations to Maysan Haydar on successfully defending her dissertation on July 9, 2020 on the American migration and acculturation of Muslims in the mid-late 20th century.
Maysan states, “'Immigration and the Forging of an American Islam,' tethers oral history narratives to the personal papers of influential organization founders to local, state, and federal archival materials. This research is salient both for contemporary Western states/groups seeking to nurture the assimilation of large numbers of Muslim refugees and immigrants, and for understanding the development of Muslim minorities as a cogent phase within Islamic History."
Her dissertation committee consists of:
Peter Mansoor, General Raymond E. Mason Jr. Chair in Military History, The Ohio State University
David Steigerwald, The Ohio State University
Paula Baker, The Ohio State University
Judy Tzu-Chun Wu, Director of the Humanities Center, University of California-Irvine
Deborah Dash Moore, Frederick G.L. Huetwell Professor of History, University of Michigan
Well done, Maysan!
