Alyssa VanHaitsma Kotva is a PhD Candidate in Ancient History, advised by Dr. Kristina Sessa. She is broadly interested in the cultural and environmental history of the later Roman Empire. Her dissertation is a study of the cultural narratives, material constraints and opportunities, and power relations on and around Mediterranean islands in late antiquity.
