Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Spotlight on Matthew Raskin

Matthew Raskin with Brutus Buckeye
Matthew Raskin is a history major from Phoenix, Maryland.

What do you love most about history?
The thing I love the most about history is that I can get lost in the story of the past for hours reading about long lost worlds.

Why did you choose to be a history major?
I chose to be a history major because when I took my first AP History class in high school I fell in love with the discipline. I decided then and there that I did not want to do anything else.

What are the favorite history courses you have taken?
My favorite courses have been History 3590: Wars of Empire, History 3465: American Jewish History, and History 2221E: Introduction to the New Testament.

Do you have a favorite professor or professors? Who are they and why?
I cannot possibly choose a favorite professor in the history department. I have had the pleasure of having five amazing history professors, who really have done everything for their students.

What’s one thing you wish every Buckeye knew about the past (and/or about the history department)?
I wish every Buckeye knew that Queen Anne Boleyn was not actually tried nor executed for being a witch, and that the history department is a really close-knit community.
