Congrats to Zach Fry

Congratulations

Congratulations to Zachery Fry who successfully defended his dissertation,"Lincoln's Divided Legion: Loyalty and the Political Culture of the Army of the Potomac," in April  2017.   His committee included Professors Mark Grimsley, John Brooke, Paula Baker [pictured below] and Allen Guelzo of Gettysburg College. His outside reader as graduate faculty rep. was Prof. Blaine Lilly, Dept. of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.  Fry dissertation won the 2019 Edward M. Coffman First-Manuscript Prize from the Society of Military History.  Fry also won the John T. Hubbell Prize for the best article published in Civil War History during 2018, for his article “McClellan’s Epidemic:  Disease and Discord at Harrison’s Landing, July-August 1862,” which appeared in the March 2018 issue of Civil War History.  His book, now titled A Republic in the Ranks: Loyalty and Dissent in the Army of the Potomac will be published by the University of North Carolina Press in April 2020.
