A Continuing Education workshop for secondary educators in History/Humanities/English

This day-long workshop will introduce teachers to the history of comics and vocabulary needed for textual analysis, as well as address how to create history/humanities classroom activities using comics as primary and secondary texts so as to respect the artist medium while addressing state subject standards. The workshop will take place in the classroom, reading room, and galleries of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, and all materials (books) will be provided. The workshop will be facilitated by Ohio State University faculty in history and comics studies.
Participants also will be offered free registration to the Comics Studies Society’s Annual Conference, hosted at Ohio State University on June 11-13, 2026, on the theme of pedagogy (Conference program). Attendance at the conference is not required—instructions to register for the conference will be included with workshop registration confirmation. Participants who choose to attend any conference sessions will have the opportunity of earning additional continuing education hours.
