Ryan is a PhD Candidate in the History Department. She studies American foreign relations in the 20th century, specializing in U.S.-Cuba transnational exchanges during the late post-Cold War period.  She is currently investigating the relationship between informal travel diplomacy and U.S.-Cuba rapprochement efforts during the late 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
