Henry Misa studies the environmental history of premodern Central Asia. His dissertation analyzes the effects of drought on agricultural, pastoral, and hybrid economies with case studies in Transoxiana, the Tarim Basin, and the Inner Asian steppe. His work incorporates Central Asia, a dynamic but understudied region, into the scholarship on Global Environmental History. His work has appeared in The Journal of Interdisciplinary History and is supported by a Fulbright-Hays grant. His additional research interests include the ecological history of bubonic plague and amber trade networks.
