Geoffrey Parker

Geoffrey Parker is Distinguished University Professor and Andreas Dorpalen Professor of European History. Dr. Parker studies the social, political, and military history of Europe between 1500 and 1650, with special reference to Spain and its empire. He teaches courses on the Reformation, European history and military history at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has published and edited 40 books on European, military, and world history. Dr. Parker's perhaps best-known work is The Military Revolution: Military Innovation and the Rise of the West, 1500-1800. In the field of environmental history, Dr. Parker's most influential work is The Global Crisis: war, climate, and catastrophe in the 17th-century (Yale 2013). Dr. Parker was the twentieth recipient of Ohio State University's Sullivant Medal awarded once every five years to "a member of the university whose achievements have been extraordinary and distinctive."
