This course examines the development of a persecuting society in medieval Europe and explores the various ways that minorities were demonized (literally turned into "monsters") in the medieval discourse and artwork in order to create a strong sense of unity within Christendom, with a specific focus on Jews, lepers, Muslims, religious non-conformists, sexual nonconformists, and women. Prereq or concur: English 1110.xx, or permission of instructor. GE historical study and diversity global studies course.
