In her literary works, including her latest novel Minor Detail, she explores the alliance between language and disfluency, but also how language and literature might create openings, both to what has been erased or silenced in history and to fictional connections and possibilities in the present. An ethical concern that runs through her writing is how literary narratives from within Palestine can connect to others far away. Here, Shibli situates Palestine a space of intimacy, a literary compass, and a position of witnessing rather than a literary subject. Adania Shibli was born in Palestine in 1974, holds a PhD from the University of East London, and has published three novels in Arabic. She splits her time between Berlin and Jerusalem. This event is sponsored by the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Office of International Affairs, Department of History, Department of Comparative Studies, The Middle East Studies Center. RegistrationThe Zoom details will be emailed to you once you register.
