Daniel Kurtzahn is a second-year PhD student specializing in diplomatic history at The Ohio State University. His interests include United States domestic and foreign policy, the United States in the world, and the history of Atlantic Unity and the Atlantic Alliance. His research project focuses on the mutually influencing roles that Portuguese decolonization and NATO played on one another throughout Portugal's membership in NATO as an empire (1949-1975). Other significant actors include the United States, the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the activities of a multitude of nonstate actors during the Portuguese Colonial War (1961-1974).
