Geoffrey Parker Inducted into American Philosophical Society

Geoffrey Parker

Congratulations to Prof. Geoffrey Parker on being inducted into the American Philosophical Society! Benjamin Franklin established the APS in 1743 with the aim of “promoting useful knowledge,” making it the oldest learned society in the country. Since that time, it has included only some 5,818 members. The list of members is an impressive one, beginning with George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and other founders, and then moving on to John James Audubon, Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, and more recently Elena Kagan. Election to the American Philosophical Society honors extraordinary accomplishments in all fields. The APS is unusual among learned societies because its Membership is comprised of top scholars from a variety of academic disciplines.

Professor Parker joins Brian Joseph and Ellen and Lonnie Thompson as the only current Buckeyes to be members of the APS. Read more about the APS.
