The Department of History Lecture Series in Ottoman and Turkish History
Amy Singer is the Sylvia K. Hassenfeld Chair in Islamic Studies at Brandeis University. She has published and lectured on a wide array of topics in early modern Ottoman history. Her books include Palestinian Peasants and Ottoman Officials: Rural Administration around 16th-Century Jerusalem (Cambridge, 1994), Constructing Ottoman Beneficence: An Imperial Soup Kitchen in Jerusalem (SUNY, 2002), and Charity in Islamic Societies (Cambridge, 2008), as well as numerous edited and co-edited volumes. She is past president of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association.
