Erik Ehrenfeld is a history major from Medina, Ohio. 

What do you love most about history?

At its heart, history is the study of the human condition. It seeks to explain why and how humans make and implement decisions and the implications those decisions have. History, therefore, explains why we are what, or what we think, we are, which I find extraordinary. 

Why did you choose to be history major? 

I've always had a fascination for history, and I love the depth and challenge that university-level courses offer.

What are the favorite history courses you have taken? 

I am really enjoying Professor Mansoor's course on WWII, which is my favorite event to study. Last semester, I loved Professor Reed's History of Modern China course, especially since most of the information was completely new to me.

Do you have a favorite professor or professors? Who are they and why?

Professor's Mansoor and Reed immediately spring to mind. They are both experts in their field and drive their students to submit nothing less than their best work. Professor Steigerwald is equally inspiring and promotes a hands-on approach to assignments with primary source requirements and classroom discussions.  

What’s one thing you wish every Buckeye knew about the past (and/or about the history department)?

There's no final word in history. Our understanding of the past evolves with the discovery of new information and by reevaluating past assumptions. This means history is dynamic, not static like many people assume.
